Small Town Train

Altamont became  the village it is today due to arrival of the Albany and Susquehanna Railroad in 1863. For a time in recent years, the trains stopped passing through. But once again, though not as massive as the railroads on some main lines, the train comes through Altamont on a regular basis. The sound of the train whistle and rattle of the cars, are part of the community’s character, and I believe most local folk appreciate the tradition.
